It has been difficult to figure out where we’re going with Obama and his Democrats. Does Obama admire the French model of statism, or the Cuban model of an authoritarian-ordered, regulated, “fair” society? Certainly it’s not the American model of self-reliance, optimism and capitalism. As Americans our experience does not prepare us to evaluate Obama’s lurch to the left. But looking closely at what he’s doing, the best comparison seems to be Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Obama’s people talk about re-adjusting incomes, cracking down on financial institutions, ignoring the constitution, organizing and deputizing uniformed children, presumably to monitor their elders. Chavez lavishly spends “his” oil revenues. Obama’s insane spending habit is supported by unlimited government borrowing. Does this have the ring of the Hugo Chavez version of “change”?

Well, I’m not so completely alarmed as to think that there won’t be another election so we can set things right. But neither am I so naive as to think that it can’t happen here. It is necessary to pay strict attention to everything that is happening to us right now and that the leftist politicians are cooking up for our future. Some of these things will be really hard to back out of once implemented.
